FAQs

Cartwheel Rental

  • Are the carts at Cartwheel Rental just like regular golf carts?

Cartwheel Rentals offers street-legal, gas-powered golf carts classified as low speed vehicles (LSVs) under Florida law. These LSVs are authorized to operate on any road with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less. All roads throughout Sanibel and Captiva Islands meet this requirement.
  • What makes them street-legal?

In Florida, street-legal golf carts must be equipped with seat belts, turn signals, mirrors, and additional safety features. All our carts include these required features and are properly titled and registered with the State of Florida. For additional details, please refer to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Guide to Owning Low Speed Vehicles at https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/mv/lowspeedvehicles.pdf.
  • Is there an age requirement to drive a cart?

Yes. Drivers must be at least 21 years old to rent or operate a cart.
  • Is my 16-year-old allowed to drive the cart if a 21-year-old registered driver is on the cart, too?

No. All drivers must be at least 21 years old to operate one of our carts.
  • How fast do the carts go?

Our carts can reach speeds of up to 25 mph.
  • May I drive the cart onto the beach or the causeway?

No. Carts are only permitted on roadways within Sanibel Island and Captiva Island. Carts are not allowed to leave the boundaries of Sanibel Island and Captiva Island.
  • Can I drive the cart on the bike path?

No. Operating any motorized vehicle, including a cart, on the bike path is prohibited.
  • Where can I travel on Sanibel or Captiva within that 35-mile limit?

Sanibel Island spans 12 miles in length and 5 miles in width. You can drive from Lighthouse Beach Park on the eastern end of the island to the shops and restaurants on Captiva Island and return in just under 30 miles.
  • How does insurance work?

All our carts carry insurance coverage, however your personal auto insurance policy will serve as the primary coverage.
  • What's your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or check out before your scheduled date, please note that you will remain responsible for the full cost of your reservation.
